What is MCC

Google Ads MCC manager accountDefinition:

MCC is the historical name for Google Ads manager accounts, formerly called My Client Center. These accounts allow multiple advertising accounts to be viewed and managed from one central access point without merging them. Linking an existing account does not automatically transfer its ownership.

A manager account can link individual Google Ads accounts and other manager accounts. Each linked account retains its campaigns, data, users and settings, while the MCC adds shared access for management. Ownership and billing depend on how each account was created and configured.

What MCC means today

The initials come from My Client Center, the name historically used by Google. The product is now called a Google Ads manager account, although MCC remains a common abbreviation among agencies and advertising professionals.

The correct expansion is not “My Control Center”. MCC identifies a manager account, not a dashboard that gathers or converts every account into a single advertising account.

A standard advertising account manages its own campaigns and billing. An MCC organises access to multiple accounts and provides cross-account functions, while the client accounts remain independent.

How an MCC account works

Linking uses the Google Ads account’s customer ID. The manager sends a request, and a user with sufficient permissions in the client account must accept it before access becomes active.

Linking an account does not require password sharing or remove existing access. Either party can end the relationship, and the advertising account retains its campaigns and history. This separation allows a business to work with a Google Ads agency without transferring account ownership.

Multiple manager accounts can also be linked to form a hierarchy. This structure is useful when an organisation manages different markets, brands, subsidiaries or teams, but it needs careful design to avoid unnecessary permissions or unclear responsibilities.

Main functions

An MCC brings together common tasks for supervision and operation that would be repetitive when entering each account separately. The available functions depend on permissions, configuration and the products in use.

  • Central navigation: Switch between linked accounts and review alerts from a single access point.
  • Aggregated view: Compare performance, budgets and activity through dashboards and reports covering multiple accounts.
  • Shared management: Apply certain actions, rules, lists or settings to several accounts when Google Ads supports them.
  • User administration: Organise who can access the MCC and the scope they have over linked accounts.
  • Shared measurement: Manage resources such as cross-account conversion tracking when it is configured from the manager account.

Google Ads also provides Google Ads Editor for offline work and bulk campaign changes. They are complementary tools: an MCC structures account relationships, while Editor supports campaign editing.

Billing and reporting

An MCC does not automatically combine the billing of every linked account. Each account can retain its own payments profile, payment method and tax documents.

Google offers consolidated billing arrangements to organisations that meet its requirements and have the corresponding payments setup. Having an MCC therefore does not guarantee a single invoice or change the payment obligations of client accounts by itself.

Manager-account reports can combine data from several accounts, but a valid comparison requires compatible definitions, currencies, time zones and attribution models. An aggregate total may hide important differences between markets, budgets or campaign types.

Access and security

Centralised management improves efficiency, but it also increases the impact of a compromised credential or excessive permission. Organisations should apply least privilege, enable two-step verification and periodically review users, linked accounts and access levels.

Changes made through the MCC are associated with the user who performs them and may affect multiple accounts. Rules, shared lists, labels, budgets or conversion settings need defined controls before broad application.

Creation and linking take place in Google Ads. The official documentation explains the current operation of manager accounts, linking requests and their limits. The setup should be reviewed when teams, suppliers or access requirements change.
