Definition:
Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure
(HTTPS)
is the secure version of HTTP, the protocol through which data is sent between the browser and the website to which you are connected. The “S” at the end of HTTPS stands for “secure” in English. This means that all communications between the browser and the website are encrypted and with an SSL certificate.

What is https for?
HTTPS is often used to protect highly sensitive online transactions such as online banking and online purchase order forms.
How to distinguish an https page
Some web browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome display a lock icon in the address bar to visually indicate that an HTTPS connection is in process. With HTTPS someone between the sender and the recipient could open the message just like with HTTP, with the difference that they will not be able to understand it. Only the sender and recipient, who know the “code” used, can decrypt the message.
