What is Sistrix

Definition:

Sistrix SISTRIX is a digital visibility analysis platform known for its Google Visibility Index. It also provides domain, keyword, link, and website research, together with tools for examining mentions, entities, and sources in artificial intelligence system responses.

Visibility Index

SISTRIX was created by Johannes Beus, and its Toolbox grew from his experience in SEO analysis. The Visibility Index, whose basic calculation has remained consistent since 2008, summarizes a domain’s organic presence across a representative set of searches and supports comparisons with other websites over time.

The index does not represent actual visits or internal Google data. It is a third-party metric calculated from rankings, search frequency, and estimated click probability. It is useful for comparing trends, domains, directories, and historical changes within the same dataset.

Main Sistrix features

The platform combines research and projects configured for a specific website. Its features cover several areas of SEO work and competitive intelligence.

  • Domains and keywords: identifies rankings, visible pages, competitors, and topical opportunities.
  • Links: analyzes backlinks, referring domains, and comparable profiles.
  • Projects and auditing: crawls websites, identifies technical issues, and creates visibility indices from custom keyword sets.
  • Digital markets: includes data for Amazon and other areas covered by the platform.
  • API and reporting: supports the integration of metrics into workflows, dashboards, and Looker Studio.

Chatbot visibility research

SISTRIX provides a research database calculated in advance for brands, entities, and sources. Its AI/Chatbot Research tool queries millions of prompts per language and supports reverse searches to find which questions mention a brand, person, place, or domain. This layer analyzes ChatGPT, Gemini, and DeepSeek models, with separate indices by language and chatbot.

The AI Visibility Index weights the presence and position of each entity or source within responses. It supports brand comparisons and the discovery of competitors or cited pages, but it is a different indicator from the Google Visibility Index and does not measure received traffic.

Prompt and citation tracking

The second layer is Prompt Tracking, which monitors prompt sets selected by the user across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. Projects can display mentions, citations, competitors, sentiment, Visibility Score, and Share of Voice, while thematic tags group related prompts.

Prompt Research groups similar questions into topics and adds signals such as intent or customer journey stage. SISTRIX can also connect domains with brands to separate mentions and citations. A system may name a brand without linking to its website, or cite a page without emphasizing the brand in the text.

How to interpret the data

Coverage differs between the research database and tracking projects. Not every chatbot or model appears in both layers, and web-connected answers may change more frequently than foundation-model outputs. Comparisons should keep the same language, system, prompt set, and time period.

These metrics help identify trends, sources, and competitive gaps, but they do not prove that a particular optimization caused a mention. They should be checked against analytics, Search Console, and manual review. Sistrix provides these signals within an SEO strategy. More information is available on the official SISTRIX website.
